22nd February 2012 Hornets Exit the First Division Cup 9:08 am
Debenham LC FC played Godmanchester Rovers FC yesterday evening at Maitlands in the quarter final of the Ridgeons League First Division Cup and were narrowly beaten after a courageous, battling performance that equalled that of the league leaders who were made to fight every inch of the way. After a one-in-a-million overhead volley gave the visitors an early lead the game was very even and if anything Debenham shaded the first half but they were undone by a very soft penalty award to the visitors when a forward made minimal light contact with George Johnson but hit the deck as if he’d been hit by a truck. It’s a sad comment on modern football that players “go down” as soon as they feel an opponent and appeal for a foul, maybe referees shouldn’t be quite so gullible! A goal for the Hornets midway through the second half promised much as the home side pressed but a breakaway by the visitors saw their third goal and the scoring was completed when substitute Jack Seccombe scored his first senior goal after a good run at the defence but there was no time left and the game ended in disappointment.
Assistant First Team Manager Jason Pettit said after the game “After a poor performance Saturday we gave a good account of ourselves against a very good Godmanchester team and without conceding a sloppy first goal and a soft pen it could have been a different story. After dominating possession in the first half we struggle to create any real chances in the final third which was disappointing as you need to make the pressure count. Second half we were slow to get out of the blocks and it took us 10 minutes to start to apply the pressure that we had finished the first half with.
Its always a shame to be knocked out of a cup competition especially when the players put so much into it but we have no time to dwell on it as we have another tough fixture away to Halstead Saturday and with the target to finish in the top five at the end of the season we need to start picking up results again but we have a number of difficult fixtures coming up”.

19th February 2012 Disappointing Day at Maitlands 8:04 am
The anticipation and excitement of the re-start of the football at Maitlands yesterday was rather washed away by almost continuous light drizzle that made the pitch heavy and slippery and seemed to suit the visitors who employed a rather robust physical style to upset the Hornets and not allow them to settle to their usual passing game. Fakenham Town FC were not the same team that the Hornets walloped 3-0 at Clipbush Park back in September with two tall and strong centre backs who were certainly not going to take any prisoners and they mastered the conditions rather more than Debenham. Having said all that however this was not a football feast with too many mistakes from both teams and we only glimpsed a couple of portions of good passing football that might have proved good for the home team. We have the usual full match report that you can read by clicking here and there is a gallery of the best bits of the action that you can view by clicking here.

17th February 2012 Adam Moves On 7:12 pm
Sad news from Club Secretary Dan Snell who informs us that Adam Rickwood has decided that his future lies elsewhere and he has been de-registered as a Debenham LC FC player to enable him to join another team for a fresh start. Adam (pictured left in action against Long Melford FC back in August 2011) was doing well as the Hornets leading goal scorer until his nasty ingrown toenail forced a prolonged halt to his playing and it was during this period that James Heathcote rejoined the club and we all know what his form is like right now. So we bid a fond farewell to Adam and his Dad Steve who we have gotten used to seeing watching the games and we wish him well at his new club wherever that may be. The club will want to express its thanks to Adam for his efforts and the part that he played in re-constructing the team at the start of the season and again hope that he finds the right club to restart his football career.

22nd February 2012 Councillor Eddie Allcock Enjoys the Game 9:36 am
Debenham LC FC was pleased to welcome Councillor Eddie Allcock (pictured right) to watch yesterday’s match. Eddie sits on Suffolk County Council and was instrumental in allocating the grant that secured the goal nets in our club colours earlier in the season. Eddie has been unable to attend a game until now but said that he was pleased to be able to help the club and was looking forward to watching the game. A good game but the wrong result, we all hope that Eddie enjoyed his evening with us.
22nd February 2012 Change of Venue for the Under 18s 9:45 am
Arrangements for Debenham LC FC Under 18s team’s match against Bungay Town that was scheduled to be played at Maitlands tomorrow, Thursday 23rd February 2012, have been changed so that the match will now be played at The Maltings Pavillion in Bungay. 22nd February 2012 Liam Smith Out for the Season 10:09 am
Liam Smith watched last night’s match at Maitlands and said that although his damaged knee was feeling somewhat better he now has an appointment to see a physiotherapist and a date for an MRI scan to be performed at Ipswich Hospital. He feels sure that he will need to undergo an operation so will miss the remaining games of this season. We all wish Liam well and a speedy recovery from whatever the doctors do to him and hope that he’s fit and rairing to go next August.

A larger than usual crowd is expected to watch what will probably be an exciting match between two teams who are no strangers to the hallowed turf at Portman Road where the final is to be played. Kick off is at 2:15 pm so if you can’t get to Halstead to
22nd February 2012 Hornets Travel to Halstead 8:04 am
Debenham LC FC first team travel to Rosemary Lane on Saturday to take on Halstead Town FC in a Ridgeons League First Division Match, kick off at 3:00 pm. We have no team news, except that the unfortunate Liam Smith will be out for the remainder of the season as he awaits treatment on his knee but the team will be eager to get back to winning ways after two consecutive home defeats and and exit of the First Division Knock Out Cup on Tuesday. The signs were good though against Godmanchester as the team played very well without too much reward and a repeat of that kind of form should bring something back on Saturday. Keep watching the website for more news and the half time and full time scores will; be on Facebook and Twitter on Saturday.
