Fakenham Town FC v Debenham LC FC
Clipbush Lane, Fakenham, Norfolk
Saturday 17th September 2011

The change in the weather to bright, sunny and pleasant  reflected an upturn in the fortunes of Debenham LC FC when they made another long trip this time to Norfolk and the very nice ground at Clipbush Lane in Fakenham. The pitch looked lush and green and was obviously well cared for with a smooth flat surface and the supporters facilities very comfortable.
Debenham welcomed Lee Bloom back to the centre of the defence and with Jack Severy absent Rob Kemp was given the job of running the left wing but the remainder of the team is beginning to take on a consistent make up that is reaping benefits in the quality of some of the play.
Debenham started the match brightly and forced a corner after just four minutes that was headed goalward by Nathan Vincent but a defender was stationed on the post and headed the ball clear. Fakenham’s number 8 Jason Day made a couple of rather vigorous early tackles and was cautioned by the referee after nine minutes perhaps reflecting the way that Debenham were playing, forcing the play into the home teams’ goal area and defending resolutely when “The Ghosts” had possession of the ball. Marc Wake was cautioned after 23 minutes for a clumsy challenge but Fakenham were not making best use of their chances as yet another free kick into the box went straight to Liam Jones and crosses and passes were over-hit and failing to trouble the visitors' goal.
On 29 minutes Debenham earned a corner on the left side that was lofted into the penalty area by Liam Bevis and the ball fell for Adam Rickwood to shot the ball into the net from amongst a gaggle of players but the Hornets’ joy was short lived as the referee blew his whistle and awarded a free kick to Fakenham for a push. Debenham were really getting into their stride and playing one touch short passing approach football with shots going in from the edge of the box notably from evergreen Rob Kemp who ran forward and had his goal bound shot turned for a corner but the best was just before the interval when Liam Bevis got forward and from 12 yards out his shot was touched just over the bar by the home keeper.

Half Time         Fakenham Town FC   0    Debenham LC FC     0

The second half started with Debenham continuing where they had left off playing neat passing football and running at the home defenders. Fakenham’s approach play was tidy and they won a corner kick but Liam Jones in the Debenham goal was not troubled. On 53 minutes Kevin Barker made a run through the midfield for at least 50 yards before passes to Liam Bevis and Nathan Vincent earned a corner that ended with a shot at goal going wide.
The 58th minutes saw Rob Kemp burst past a defender to earn a corner kick that was taken by Liam Bevis. Another beautifully flighted cross field ball from the corner was met by NATHAN VINCENT on the edge of the six yard box and his header flew into the roof of the net to open the scoring and it was just reward for an excellent display of good passing football by the Hornets.
Fakenham attacked trying to reduce the arrears but Liam Jones was not troubled by a long shot and it was Adam Rickwood who was released by a through ball who tried to dribble the ball towards goal but Tommy Rix in the home goal reached out and grabbed the ball off Adam’s foot.
Jack Minns came on for Rob Kemp after 65 minutes and the game then took a distinct turn as Jack ran at the home defence and exposed their inability to cope with speedy ball players. Jack Minns had a long shot that floated over the bar and after Marc Wake’s shot was blocked Lee Bloom’s effort frightened the pigeons on the stand behind the goal. Jack Minns was enjoying an exceptional game as he ran at the defence and skipped past three defenders’ tackles before shooting wide of the goal and Adam Rickwood was released on the right side by a good probing pass from Tom Hardwick but his cross was left by Marc Wake for Jack Minns to strike but again the ball was way off target.
The 79th minutes saw Debenham increase their lead when Jack Minns’ ball into the box was headed by Adam Rickwood but the keeper had come out of his goal and smothered Adam’s effort at close range allowing the ball to run loose to LEE BLOOM who stayed calm and rolled the ball into an unguarded net to double the Hornets’ lead.
Debenham were looking rampant now as wave after wave of attacks pressed the home team into their own half and when Liam Smith replaced Nathan Vincent on 80 minutes even more attacking options were opened up but Fakenham were not beaten yet and the excellent Shaun French made a saving sliding tackle twelve yards out at the expense of a corner that was cleared by Liam Jones in the Hornets’ goal.
In the final minute of the game Debenham rubbed salt in the Fakenham wounds by scoring a third goal when a corner on the right was cleared to Liam Smith who played the ball to Adam Rickwood and his lay off for Liam Smith ran loose to MARC WAKE whose first time shot whistled past the keeper and into the net to complete a comprehensive victory for the Hornets.
Stand out performances by Liam Bevis in midfield, Lee Bloom and Shaun French in central defence, Jack Minns on the left side as sub and the whole team for their spirit and quality play, an excellent performance.
